lots of different trail options so we just stayed by the cliffs for the most incredible views. went inland a little bit but then decided to head back towards the water. just focus on the 4.5 mi hike out around the point into halua Beach and not when we drove to koloa from the cave :-)

Trail is currently closed via roads mentioned in previous reviews, so you need to park near the horse stables and hike down the rocks. Easy to do with little kids. Cave was closed, only open on the weekends during Corona Virus times. We checked out the turtles and then enjoyed the beach for hours. Beautiful spot

Couldn’t get to the trailhead; the directions from Poipu told us to cut through gated private property in our car, which... no. But we backtracked to the Heritage trail and hiked that trail along the beach and the golf course which would have eventually gotten us to the cave except.... we’d expected a half mile hike and ended up doing a three mile hike and we stopped a mile before the cave because we were hungry. We are weak. But it was utterly gorgeous! Totally worth it. Only rated so low because the trailhead directions and thus the over-all length of the hike were so far off.

Fun little hike with our 4 and 7 year olds. Cave is great, be sure to see the tortoises. Windy, not muddy today at all.

Very nice hike with lots to learn. You have to crawl into The cave but it’s a short crawl.

Easy walk with a great cave to experience at the end. We luckily arrived right before the 4 pm closing of the cave. We enjoyed seeing the turtles. We walked further and enjoyed the beautiful beach.

Checked this out Jan 12. The access to the road to get down to parking was closed due to a flood watch. But the FB page said we could get to the cave area via CMJ ranch. There is a road to the left of the ranch signs that people were parking on. A bit rough and muddy so we left the rental at the start of the road. It was a short trail from there and the cave was amazing! The little hole to crawl through is very short thankfully. A little mucky but nothing crazy. We did some of the heritage trail after that and it had some amazing views. No rain even though forecast and current conditions said rain. Windy for sure but pleasant. Would have been nice to do the entire heritage trail but we lacked time. Also, keep going over the bridge and check out the tortoise sanctuary.

So awesome! Some of the signs are confusing leading up to it but it’s easiest if you read the directions on their website and follow the foot path signs when you get there. The horse path works as well if you feel like that’s a better idea. There are about 3 different paths that all lead to the cave. The volunteers in the cave are awesome! After the cave walk across the small bridge to see the tortoises and then go down the small path to the beach. Just don’t get in the water. It was very rough.

Awesome sandstone cave with some formations, not a lava tube like i thought initially. Bring $$ to tip cave docent. Tortoises were so cute!

Great little walk that we added on after completing the Mahaulepu Heritage Trail. We would absolutely recommend doing it as it truly is a very interesting place. There was a wonderful gentleman working there who is full of knowledge of the cave and very enthusiastic about the island.

Wonderful trail and easy enough. We brought two young children and they really enjoyed the caves. We walked to the beach. There is a high bacteria warning at the stream but we swam further down the beach and have been fine. Farm wasn’t running when we were there but the turtles were out in their cages.

Nothing special and not particularly memorable on an island filled with stunning hikes. Do it if you're passing by (i.e. on the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail), but please don't make a special trip for this.

A lot of nice cliff views. Visited the Makauwahi Cave at the end of the trail and was very worth it. Easy trail with little elevation change, and some sandy beaches in the beginning.

Easy trail to walk. Could easily be done with small ones. The cave is super cool and there’s a guide that hangs out at the cave during certain hours as part of a nonprofit organization to educate people on the islands native history. Definitely would have preferred to have a Jeep for the dirt road to the site.

Really fun leisurely walk/hike. Did it with my 2 year old! Fun views of cliffsides, cave, tortoises, and beach! Dirt road to get to but not bad. The cave is only open until 2 Monday through Friday which we didn’t know so the cave was closed but you can still look down at it! (Can’t remember the exact hours it said though... sorry)! We will go back when it’s open since we live here!

This is a great hike with a variety of views - ocean, cliffs, mountains in the distance, and the cave. The cave entrance is a tight fit but opens up quickly. Don’t miss the tortoises in the farm near the parking lot. The tour guide inside the cave was friendly and knowledgeable. A great easy hike for kids and family. We managed it with a 7 year-old and an 18-month old in a hiking pack. You need to drive on a dirt road to access the parking lot so be careful if you’re in a rental car!

This is a short but nice easy hike with some pretty views. There are numbers to follow 1-14 that take you up and over the cave. You will have to crawl to get into the cave. There are trails all around the area to walk around and get more of the beach views.

This hike is just ok. Go early because he hike is exposed on the beach and gets really hot with hot sand. Make sure to bring water. The cave is only open Saturdays otherwise it’s locked shut.
