Fun little trail with nice views over the valley. The trail was quite wide to the view point at the top. More of a fire trail - we saw tire tracks so someone must have mountain biked it the day we went. Would be a fun ride down if so. Easy hike took us about an hour return.

Great recovery hike! Bonus: getting your steps in for the day. Definitely was on the easy side of a moderate hike. Muddy especially when it has rained (Shoes will get muddy, but it path is not soupy). Casual incline on both trails. Kuilau trail is in the forest while Moelepe is pretty open and goes between two fields. Overall a nice morning hike.

Extremely muddy. It's like walking through chocolate pudding most the time. But the views are great and if you have good boots it's worth the mess. Suggest bringing towels and a change of shoes/socks.

Yes there is mud but still a very enjoyable hike with plenty of stunning views. Definitely worth going, just bring something to put your shoes in after the hike to not track mud in your car.

Went after a huge storm and was very hikeable. Muddy at parts, but not too bad especially for Kauai! Would recommend bringing bug spray and hiking shoes. Wasn't too steep at all. We turned back at the picnic tables and saw some great views.

Pretty trail, relatively mild grade hills, recommend atop and turn around after 2.5 miles out. We did the full 4-x out and it was full of sun and not very scenic. Beautiful vistas. See pics.

Fun and a little muddy trail. Very beautiful light in the afternoon shows all shades of green. Parking is tiny, but there is a much bigger lot just a hundred yards down the road.

Fun trail. It was kinda muddy, but not bad. The view is beautiful! Only went to the bridge which is about 2 miles up.

Great trail for cardio workout. Beautiful views and not crowded. We live close by and hike it twice a week.

Not a bad hike, it's muddy, but expect that on one of the wettest corners of the earth. Nice greenery, forest galore, wild avocados, guavas, passion fruits. Love it despite of the condition of the trail when we were there.

Great hike with a nice trail. This could be rated as easy but due to the inclines and if it was muddy I could see why it was rated as moderate. Once you get to the benches go just a little bit further straight and you will get on top of the ridge overlooking the canopy below. Great hike for the family!

Just finished this trail and I was not expecting such spectacular views!! I’d highly recommend checking it out!! We are not avid hikers, go every few months and we did fine. Agree that it is a moderate trail. This will definitely be a trail we will do next visit!

Beautiful views along the Kuilau portion of the hike. Not too strenuous. Agree that the last mile is worth skipping as it’s not particularly scenic and drops you off at the Moalepe trailhead.

I hiked this trail today 2/11/19 (day after huge rain/wind storm) and there were tons of trees down which were manageable up until the picnic table area and after that we had to go off trail in order to continue. Only the adventurous few made it off trail and a lot of other people with small children were forced to turn around. The biggest view was at the picnic table area, though! After the first big tree down, we got another half a mile and another big tree was down. We were able to straddle over the trunk but again, would’ve been very difficult for some people. We ended up doing the full trail and could’ve skipped on the last mile which was just an open farm area with no view. Lots of shade and mud, probably would recommend hiking boots.

Great spot for a challenging run, not so much a hike

A lovely hike and nice break from more arduous treks on the west coast. The downed tree has been cleared making it smooth with only the expected muddy spots. Light traffic with friendly folks mostly seeking an easier hike. Definitely do both trails, but the last mile is worth skipping, it’s the least interesting section. The most enjoyable hike on my trip so far. Just easy and peaceful perfection.
