A little slippery, I used my hiking poles and was happy I did. My kids and husband did not but they were doing just fine. I would do this again and bring a lunch along. Very nice place. Feb.2020

A little slippery on the way down, but I had no issue in hiking boots. I highly recommend packing a lunch and walking down the beach a ways to find a quiet place to enjoy the sound of the waves and soft sand. Great views of the Kileau lighthouse.

Very muddy and slick. Wife fell and fractured her wrist. Worth weighing risk vs reward.

Amazing beach. Well worth the sort walk down the trail. Saw a lot of people turning back where it starts downhill. Do bring good shoes to climb down the hill.

This trial was a short (but very muddy and steep) trek to the beach. Although not actually “secret” we hung out there for an hour and saw one other couple as we left. We did this in hiking shoes but you could be okay in hiking sandals as well. Flip flops would have definitely caused a slip and fall. We did this hike after raining all morning and determining our more treacherous planned hike would be too muddy and time consuming to fit into our schedule. If it hadn’t rained before/during, the brief hike would have been easier. There was a sign posted (as most places in Hawaii) that there had been deaths in the area due to dangerous waves, including a homemade sign in honor of a man who passed away only three weeks prior. It was very easy to see why once we reached the beach- the waves were no joke. We had read on some blogs that it was for advanced swimmers only- I disagree. We didn’t even walk in the water or along the shoreline as huge and powerful waves frequently came out of nowhere. On the left side there were beautiful rocks and cliffs and we saw a giant log being pushed around like it was a twig. We kept our shoes on and stayed further back from the water just to be safe in case larger waves came. Overall, this was a fun little hike and secluded area to see and be amazed by northern Kauai’s beauty, but not a beach from swimming- at least not in the winter!

Extremely muddy, downhill, but fairly short. We took our 6 & 7 year olds. Beautiful beach with thumping shore break surf. We had a great time climbing on the large black lava rocks on the beach.

Moderate descent over roots, rocks, little slippery. As all other trails are in Kauai! Walking stick helps. Wide beautiful beach. Off to left, do climbing over rocks to be rewarded with even more amazing views and little waterholes to swim in.

Dirt road turns into a small parking lot. Trail starts off flat and easy then the decline to the beach is moderately steep. Wide beautiful beach at the bottom! Some nudity there FYI. Great “secret” spot!

We got here at around 5pm and it was perfect!! We had an hour and a half to explore in ideal weather. So much to explore. Plan on returning in the morning to do more. This beach just might be my favorite spot in all of Kauai ❤️

HikingNo shade

Seriously no shade unless you go after noon and can set up camp near the cliff side. Walk way down is a little long but so worth it. Climb over the rocks to get to a more private beach. Sand is extremely hot so wear appropriate shoes

Short, steep hike to a beautiful beach you can see the lighthouse from. Signs warn not to swim here, multiple people have died. Very hot beach with little shade

The path to the beach is a little steep but nice enough to walk barefoot. The beach had little traffic and breathtaking views.

Quick hike down to a 5 star beach. Fairly steep hill down and then back up. Seemed to be lots of shade under some trees and then with the rock cliff on the back of the beach. Snapped a few pics and left but you could easily spend the day here - if you want to bring gear down and up.

Short but nice hike down a steep hill to the beach. There was some parking on the dirt road near the trailhead midday. Really nice beach - we only stayed for a short visit.

Very short “hike” with trail being muddy and slippery. The beach is AMAZING and secluded. It’s straight out of a movie.

The hike down is worth it. The views are amazing. We did it in flip flops as we were not planning on hiking today. I would recommend trail shoes it was super muddy. Hubby ate it right at the bottom. Not little kid safe in my opinion. Think about going into the water here. It was low tide and it’s wicked. People have died here. Not kid friendly unless they are just getting their feet wet.

The reward at the bottom is worth anything- and it was a pretty short down. Back up is all uphill- so just a little hot. But again; short.
