HikingOver grown

This was my second time doing this trail. We were able to drive right to the trailhead with our 4x4. No rocks blocking the road. It was much more over grown this time, and the trail is hard to follow. We only hiked it one direction, as we continued down the Hanalei river. But the tunnels are unreal if you can make it there! Wear pants.

The access to the trail is closed with boulders across the road.

First to Review

For anyone doing this trail the road is partially blocked off at the top of the road leading to the trailhead and you will need a serious off road vehicle to get all the way in there (3 miles) to the trailhead. Since you cross a river and go through a swamp and it is really muddy and difficult especially in the first part I think a mountain bike would be a lot better to get in there. First park at the top or go as far as you dare then take a mountain bike or something or just then hike to the trailhead on the dirt gravel washed out road. Then hike the actual grualing trail, it is nice and muddy and you have to figure a lot of things out like direction, use the all trails to guide you or maps gps. You will be crawling at some points going the a tunnel on its own to the tunnel made out of overhanging branches. I loved the hike and learned a lot from it but you should know what you are getting yourself into.
