We took the trail counter clockwise going Waipoʻo falls way first the block pipe loop back. The falls trail was great! The views of the canyon were beautiful. The falls has a pool and people were jumping and swimming. We took the black pipe loop back. Would not recommend. It was overgrown and no views. Would rather have taken the falls trail back up.

Today was a perfect day for this hike! Minimal slipping, pretty views. We enjoyed a look at the wild goats over one of the edges. None of us used walking sticks. We were all in hiking shoes. We're mostly a very experienced group of hikers, the one who wasn't didn't have many problems either though.

We started at the alternative trailhead that was extremely muddy. We opted to take black pipe on the way back from the falls and it was much better! Less of an incline and much cleaner/quieter! Highly recommend this route for the popular trail.

More obstructed than I was expecting, but the views when available are incredible. Totally worth the drive, we loved it. We picked this Bc it was supposed to be significantly less strenuous than the Kukui trail.

Great trail. Make it an out and back along the western portion of the loop, the Eastern portion is blocked by some trees.

My wife and I did the Canyon Trail and the Black Pipe trail as part of the return back. A tad muddy and slippery in certain sections but not nearly as bad we were anticipating especially given all the recent rain. Spectacular view of the canyon with a peekaboo of part of the falls. The Black Pipe look starting out from the branch at the Canyon Trail is narrow in spots and quite overgrown with grasses and such, but nothing too hard. However, there is a split in the trail about half way through that’s unmarked with no indication which way to go (right downwards or left uphill). We randomly chose to go left (uphill) to see where that took us and that worked (but missed seeing any water pools - so perhaps going right was also ok?). Surprised that there isn’t better signage now and then.

No need to drive down to the parking areas if you aren’t in a 4x4 vehicle. Just walk

Had a great hike after driving for 1 hr + on the Canyon Trail. My boyfriend and i made it to the first 2 falls and back in about 2 hrs. Its a haul on the way back up (up hill almost the whole way) so I recommend lots of water and intermediate experience. If you take it slow, you’ll be fine. It definitely was muddy in patches but nothing compared to other hikes we’ve done on the island. The falls are gorgeous and well worth the sweat! There are even pools you can jump into if you’d like. Have fun and be safe!

Great hike! My wife and I did the Canyon Trail loop which was around 4 miles round trip. Didn’t get a view of the falls but the view of the Canyon was amazing. Overall a blast. Trails goes down first and up so coming back up we definitely were feeling out of breath. We both workout 5 days a week and walk/hike frequently and this was “not an easy but definitely not killing us” hike. We brought two nalgenes of water and we were fine. Finished there and back in about 2.5 hours with some photo stops along the way. We were definitely hauling however. Loved it!

Bien mais on a jamais vu de chutes. On a quand même fait 6.4 km. Il y a de très beaux points de vue.

Great views of the canyon and 2 splendid waterfalls. Green and lush on the way in and if you make it a loop hike like we did the way back is very Australiana-like bus land. Very cool to see 2 different landscapes so close to each other.

Amazing view and great hike. The trail can take some unexpected turns and I lost it a couple times. If you're scrambling under trees by the stream you've gone too far. I dropped some branches over the wrong trail as it looked like a whole bunch of people had done the same thing.

Quick little trail to 2 little waterfalls and a great view of waimea canyon. The trail, without the loop, is great to see some cool things with a limited amount of time.

Great hike! There were some steep areas, but doable. There are cliffs with beautiful views and a waterfall to swim in at the end. I would suggest hiking shoes because there are areas of loose gravel. We went the shorter way to the waterfall, not the long "black pipe" route.

We took the Black Pipe trail on our way out after seeing the falls. We did it mainly to get off the main trail and have a more secluded and peaceful trip back. We didn't see anyone, so we accomplished that goal. The trail is narrow, but is in okay condition. There are some spots where logs have fallen and some false trails, so it is good to have your Alltrails map to reference. We had to do it twice and were glad we had it. The views were nice and it was pretty peaceful.

Great short hike. When it starts to get steep at the very end, you will see a trail/path to the left. Take that for an easier descent and a nice little water fall. After exploring there, you'll see a path that leads you to the other waterfall. These aren't huge waterfalls, but nice. We had shade most of the hike and started around 11 am. We took the Black Pipe trail out to extend our hike (it loops right back into the road, but is less traveled so we had the trail to ourselves).

Took this to extend our hike back from Canyon trail and it was nothing spectacular. The trail is overgrown and has no signage, and it’s possible to take a wrong turn more than once and end up stuck in some brush. Luckily we had the map on AllTrails pulled up so we figured it out. It’s a nice incline on the way back from the waterfall, but has no views (or “black pipe”) to speak of. Only worth it if you need some exercise, but otherwise I would skip this.

Do not get this confused with the Canyon Trail to the Waipoo waterfall. Many signs will imply that the Black Pipe Trail will take you there, but in actuality you would need to stay on the Canyon Trail to get to the falls. The falls ARE NOT part of the Black Pipe Trail. There is a section of the Canyon Trail that you need to take in order to get to the Black Pipe Trail and junction to where it splits. The sign will have you go left for the BP Trail or right to continue the Canyon Trail to the waterfall. BP Trail is not well maintained and is overgrown, washed out, or blocked by falling trees in many spots. There are also paths that are well traversed that split from the main trail and are unmarked. Easy to get lost if you haven’t studied the Trail. I ended up walking a few extra miles only to realize I should have just stayed on the Canyon Trail. Overall, moderate to difficult hike due to how it is maintained, but rated 3 stars due to misleading info and ambiguity in the hike.
