Waikoloa Fisherman Trail is a 2.1 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Waikoloa Village, Hawaii, Hawaii that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips.
Trail along the coastline to Black Sand Beach 49, mostly over lava. Not difficult but can be very hot.
The first quarter mile is treacherous footing, walking on large stones and pieces of coral. Roughly the next mile is a well worn trail suited for anyone, then a half mile of sandy beach and after that lava, sometimes a scramble with the trail not always clear. The shoreline is amazing. I saw one turtle. The trail passes an anchialine pond restoration project. At trail end, the shoreline is stunningly beautiful and the trail continues across the lava field as far as I can see
Great run if staying in Waikoloa Village- easy to get to, fantastic views and a moderate elevation. As expected this is mainly on Lava Rock, creating a technical run that requires more attention, but this is more fun for trail runners than simply running road-like trails. Runs along the ocean for most of it, so although its hot there is a chance to dip if wanted. Great morning workout!
Great views, but parts of the trail are not very passable due to vegetation from the homes or the cliff. Most of the trail north of the HILTON is loose large lava rocks with the high risk of twisting an ankle.
