The Streamside Trail of Waimea is a 2 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Kamuela, Hawaii, Hawaii that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for walking, running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Hikers report that the trailhead is hard to find. When coming from Kona into Waimea turn right after the gas station and go a few blocks. You will see the King Kam sign indicating the beginning of the trailhead.
It has multiple entry points. I entered from the Ululaau nature park's parking lot. Not a well marked trail. Not much to see, but good for an afternoon or evening walk.
not really a hike. or a river. it's a walk through a town next to a stream bed. Couldn't figure out where to park, and there were no signs to help. ended up spending 45 minutes confusing the locals by driving in circles. pretty little walk, but not worth the energy it took to find. We did find one of the few McDonalds on the island tho
Really fun trail. Very easy! But also very pretty. Goes thru a lot of beautiful trees. Do not start near the gas station; it is difficult to find the trailhead from there. There are a few areas where you can pick up the trail, a bit further down the trail, that are much easier to find! Try the spot across from Merriman's. I took some pictures I uploaded them
Nice casual and easy trail although the trailhead is hard to find and almost non-existent...
Maybe this would be better if it weren’t dried up. If you start at the circle park, you could totally bring a jogging stroller. Otherwise, if you start at the church, you have to cross the dry river and there’s a ton of toilet paper and homeless camps.
OK trail but a little challenging to find. We parked at the Foodland shopping center and walked to the trail head. When you get to the trail head the stream will be on your left. Easy hike. Does go past a park and behind some homes. It’s nice to hear the stream as you’re walking along. Enjoy
I didn't like this trail at first. It seems to start at a little park right by the main intersection that has no parking. I parked at the community center up the road and walked back to the park. Had trouble finding the trailhead and had to plow through overgrowth and cross the little stream. Then as I was on the path which went behind various businesses and private homes I disturbed a person sleeping in the brush! It did get nicer, someone has planted lots of nasturtiums and morning glories that have naturalized and smell beautiful. I passed lots of friendly folks and exchanged much aloha along the way. The stream is pretty in spots but is pretty small.
