This is a once in a lifetime trail!!!! Absolutely amazing on al levels. Great for kids and adults alike. An amazing reflection of how powerful the Earth is. We took a while on these trail to read all the information on the guided tour. You can download it on your phone. No one is here right now. We had this too ourselves 99% of the time.

What a beautiful hike. It was a perfect day. The sun was coming thru the forested area and when we got to the crater and walked across, the clouds kept it from getting too hot. Wear layers - can be chilly at first. So much to look at.

I mean, you're hiking on a volcano. How cool is that? The trail down can be muddy and slippery but I did it with a toddler on my shoulders.

Awesome trail. Hiked this February 2020 while visiting/vacationing from Alaska and it was definitely not like any trail I've ever hiked! Special place. Steam vents are super neat but don't get too close.

Such a fun trail. Great combo of rain forest and lava. Quite a few stairs but well worth it.

One of the best short hikes we’ve done in Hawaii, Oahu, Maui, or Kauai! Can be done in 1-1.5 hours depending on how many pictures you take!

Really cool hike and a must do hike if you’re going to Volcanoes National Park. It was blue skies and sunny when we began at the lookout. As we descended through the lush forest down to the canyon and it started raining on us halfway across. But it just made the whole environment feel extra surreal, like walking ok the moon. By the time we reached the far end of the crater the rain had stopped long enough for us to take a coffee break and enjoy the views before it began raining again as we ascended back up to the rim. The trails are all wide and well groomed. A couple muddy spots but easy to get around. Overall pretty easy trail, with the cool experience of walking across a former lava lake. *Note, we did the trail backwards (clockwise), and would recommend it. This way you will finish with the more dramatic part of the crater and the final stretch of the rim trail will be a flat and easy cool down back to the parking lot. Enjoy!
