HikingNo shade

I did this as a 2 mile run to the beach as a part of my workout. Despite what folks say I enjoyed the trail run through the lava rock. But there is NO shade. You can indeed park closer to the beach if you want to avoid this. I highly recommend taking the lava rock path past the historic house further towards makalawena beach. Surf is rough but sandier beach. Also keep an eye out for the Hawaiian monk seal. They like to sleep on the beach during the day.

HikingNo shade
First to Review

This isn't much of a hiking trail, it's more just a road that leads to a beach. It was an easy walk. The only thing that made it tough was the lack of shade and the heat. We were the only ones walking on the road. Most people just drove their cars in. Any car could make it, just drive slowly. It was totally worth the walk to get to the amazing beach. We hiked a bit further to Makalawena. The beach was pristine, the water was clear, it was awesome.
