Unique pools. Nice mix of remote and rocky beach plus lava rock and fresh water spring.

Majority of the hike is across a lava field. Some footing is unstable rock. Trail is generally easy to follow with some doubtful spots near the ocean. The pond is beautiful and the coastline is amazing

A lot of the trail is over rough lava rocks. We saw people in flip flops which is not a great idea (putting yourself at risk of serious injury is not a great vacation strategy). At least wear sneakers. The beaches are gorgeous and empty. The pools are unique and picturesque.

At the end of the beach part was a field of crumbly old lava rocks. I went alone and was therefore a bit intimidated by the terrain even though I had trail runners. Had I not got hurt on the sharp lava rocks I would have gone further!

Great trail. The pond and black sand beach were amazing! Pretty easy hike just a little rough with the lava rocks. Would recommend!

Trail over lava fields was rough. Good shoes definitely needed. Didn’t seem to be a largely traveled trail. Didn’t see anyone for the two hours we spent down on the beach/ hike time. Pools are pretty and so is the beach surrounding them. Not a good snorkel spot, very open bay made for rougher ocean conditions.

Rough trail over lava fields with no shade. The pools are nice and make for a good dip. The real treat though is the coastline to the South, which you will reach when turning left at the beach behind the fenced private property. Follow the beach alongside the fenced-off coconut grove and scramble over a few lava rocks. After about half an hour you will reach a deserted black sand beach that you will have literally for yourself. There is some welcoming shade there too.

Keep going west after the pond for a private bay, and then follow the bay south for a private black sand beach Oh, and if you give this trail a 1 star you’re probably an idiot

An outstanding hike. The black sand beach with its lone palm is fantastic, and the golden pools make this trail a unique experience. The harsh a'a lava will tear up your shoes, so wear strong boots.

This is a great trail, it's easily seen and not hard to see where to go. You will definitely need shoes for this hike because of the lava rock and uneven and loose terrain. Also don't forget plenty of water seeing how there is no shade.

Worthwhile trail, majority through a rocky lava field with a decent path. Defintiely recommend hiking or very sturdy shoes. May be worth it to hook right at the fork as picking up the trail after the beach is a little tricky. Golden pools are beautiful and serene. Beach is black pebble leading into a cool black and white volcanic rock and coral beach.

Really really rough lava. Not for the faint of heart or balance challenged. We took the trail down to the beach and went around the long way (past the private homes) to the ponds. nice cooling off in the fresh water pond beyond the golden pond.

This is nice trail with nice cool pool at the end. I rate it 4 star because the trail has very sharp lose laca rocks and there is no shade most of the way
