Loop hike takes you to two large waterfalls in a lush rain forest near Hilo. Self-guided walk through tropical vegetation to scenic vista points overlooking the cascading Kahuna Falls and the free-falling 'Akaka Falls, which plunges 442 feet into a stream-eroded gorge. The 0.4-mile loop footpath is a good family walk. Trailhead is located just off the parking lot. The paved route offers stunning viewpoints of the two waterfalls. To view Akaka Falls only, take the path to the left (south) from the first junction. The waterfall view is just a short walk down the path.

Just beautiful! Paved with stairs. You go through gorgeous jungle scenery. Saw a second waterfall, but not as easy to view as Akaka, which was amazing. Great easy hike!

Super easy walk along paved pathways and staircases with breathtaking views of two beautiful falls. Did this one in light rain wearing shorts with a raincoat.

Easy paved trail with amazing views of the falls. Parking can be a little tricky, but do able. We went in the early Afternoon on a Saturday so I am sure other days of the work week would be easier.

Fine for what it is. Short but pretty. Look for the flowers and the amazing trees. Can’t get to the falls themselves though.

Nice walk and views, you can opt for a quick in/out by keeping to the trail left for a view of the Akaka Falls, or take the longer loop which we did. There’s just enough elevation gain in the walk to give a sense of achievement/reward when you reach Akaka. There’s a $5 fee per car to use the lot, or a $1/person fee to walk in if you park on the road...

This was a good walk/hike. It is paved and leads you directly to see the falls. You cannot swim in these falls, so don't get your hopes up.

Nice trail between the tropical forests.

Nice view of both falls. Overall noce walking (definitely not hiking) and seeing all the biodiversity around it. Be aware : 1$ per person if you don’t have a vehicle or else it’s 5$. Definitely worth the money both cases!!!!

Beautiful trail but it's pretty far from the actual waterfall. Definitely worth seeing but I actually enjoyed the hike more than the actual waterfall. There was a little Pineapple shack on the way out though that I highly recommend! The guy is awesome and the coconut and Pineapple is amazing!!!

Costs $5 to park in the parking lot plus a $1 per person entry fee. Was easy enough to park outside the gated area. Beautiful waterfall, but don't expect solitude.

Easy paved trail (some stairs). Absolutely beautiful! Lush rainforest with a variety of wild flowers and of course, a breathtaking waterfall. There are actually a few smaller waterfalls along the way, also. Definitely worth the trip!

Very easy walk around lush garden to see the falls. More of a walk then a hike.

The most beautiful and biggest waterfall I have ever seen in my entire life! (so far) A very short walk, but very crowded. However, everyone was nice enough to let everyone have a turn to get a good enough shot at the falls!

Not much of a hike but an absolutely amazing waterfall! Unfortunately your not able to get very close to it but definitely worth checking out.if your spending any time on the big island.
