An easy to make trail connecting two typical Mountain Pilion villages Stagiates is a small village with almost 100 permanent residents, built 400m above the see level on a hillside of mountain Pilion, 10km away from the city of Volos. It is famous for its high quality spring water and the traditional fountains built hundreds of years ago during the Turkish occupation. It has also been a crossroad of trails connecting Volos with Stayiates and surrounding villages. This trail connects Stagiates with Makrinitsa and has been used by the local people since the Turkish occupation until late 40's mainly for the transportation of coal from mountain Pilion down to Stagiates and the city of Volos. During the 2nd World War the Greek Liberation Army used it for military purposes. After almost 60 years of abandonment, a group of people from Stayates, members of the local social and cultural club "APODRASIS", reestablished the trail which is used again by lots of people for walking this time. It is an easy to go trail for everyone through the Megarema creek where you can enjoy many small waterfalls along it particularly during Spring.
