The Nideggener old town consists of worth seeing half-timbered houses and Buntsandsteinhäusern. From the central market square you can look out on the two defiant city gates, and after ten minutes walk past the Romanesque parish church with one of the oldest surviving frescoes in Germany you are at the gates of Nideggen Castle, a complex of huge proportions.
