Start opposite the chapel in Erkensruhr. Here you go uphill on the road between the houses and follow the blue signs of the village tour until you reach the forest. At the edge of the forest, follow these signs no longer but straight on the broad farm road a bit uphill. At the next intersection, turn left onto the Rur-Olef-Route, which continues in a variety of ways parallel to the valley for about 2 kilometers. At the roadside spring some springs that partly flow over our way towards the valley. After leaving the narrow path, you will reach the wider valley path which runs alongside the Erkensruhr. Follow this road to the right until the junction at the desert and Püngelbach to Erkensruhr unite. From here follow the signs to Dreiborn to the left. After the bridge you continue on the trail to Dreiborn until you leave the forest and come across a meadow to a large overview panel of the national park. After another hundred meters, turn left until you reach another large panel above the farm on the Leykaul. Walk a few meters left on the farm and follow the narrow path to the right for about 2 km through the forest to Hirschrott. On the way you pass some old slate quarries and through various forest forms. The path ends above the "Waldstube" in Hirschrott and you continue straight on the trail no. 25 along the forest chapel and later at the next intersection of signs to Erkensruhr back to the valley. At the old bakery you come across the street in Erkensruhr of you 200 m to the left to follow your starting point.
