American here from Boise, Idaho! The difficult rating is accurate; this trail is very steep (1000+ feet per mile is no joke no matter where you are). So be prepared for a workout. But the scenery and views are fantastic! And the trail itself is well marked (as all trails are here in Europe) and in good condition. I began at 4 AM to see the sunrise. Worth it. SO BEAUTIFUL! After arriving at the Watzmannhaus, I decided to climb another 2000+ feet up to Hochek, the first summit of the Watzmann mountain. But came right back down since I didn’t have a harness or climbing gear to make it to the other Watzmann summits (Mittelspitze and Südspitze). It was a killer day, with a lot of vertical, but I would definitely recommend this hike to all my hiker friends.
