For a one day hike, take a train from Munich Central Station and get off at Mittenwald station. You will pass by two lakes on this route, Lautersee and Ferchensee. These lakes are a great place to spend an afternoon and take in the great views of the surrounding Bavarian landscape.

We've done this hike twice now. Have done the loop, and also went past to Elmau and back. Stop at Ferchensee and grab a beer and cake on the patio....fantastic way to celebrate a long hike. Cash only. Pretty light hike, mainly on wide, well-maintained trails. Gorgeous views, and picture-perfect views everywhere you look.

Great easy trail. Very shaded and runs along beautiful falls. Very nice place to hike. If you'd like bring some swimwear as there are nice beaches at each lake. But bring cash If you want to eat or drink at the restaurants at top. Wonderful easy and mostly flat.

It's an amazing one day hike we did near Mittenwald, one of our first in Bayern after moving to Munich recently. Although it was a bit rainy day, we thoroughly enjoyed the hike and also recorded the same for YouTube, which you can find here
