Walking

Quite a cooling and relaxing walk, very few uphill climbs and they are short. Passed by many towns so there are many potential rest stops along the way and the route is well-frequented and very safe. As there is no train station in Dobel, I suggest walking 6km more (mostly downhill) to Bad Herrenalb, where you can get a train back to Karlsruhe.

Backpacking

This was our first day on the Westweg trail from Pforzheim to Basel, Germany. We woke to beautiful weather and headed out of the town to the Black Forest. Much of the trail seemed to be logging roads used for tree harvesting and we saw plenty of wood stacks, both for industrial and residential use.

Really beautiful hike. Would recommend eating at Lendi In the city center once you’re done.
