The Westweg from Pforzheim to Basel, built in 1900, is one of Germany's most beautiful long-distance hiking trails. The continuous marking with the red rhombus on a white background leads the hiker through beautiful landscapes over the heights of the Black Forest. The total length is about 285 km. This first stage leads from Pforzheim / Kupferhammer over the ruins Hoheneck to Dillweißenstein, on via Birkenfeld, then up to Neuenbürg / Wilhelmshöhe and on to Schwann. From there it goes over the Schwanner waiting and the Dreimarkstein to the Höhenluftkurort Dobel, where ends at the Kurhaus at the Sonnentor this stage after approx. 25 km. Overall, it is much uphill, with the route at first often leads through residential areas. Finally, however, you can reach pleasant hiking trails, some of which have wonderful views. The most beautiful view you have on the tower of the Schwanner waiting. Here you can see from the heights of Bad Herrenalb in the Rhine Valley to the Palatinate Forest.

was good, almost all the time in the forest, was also nice, but I'm more of the hill-man

This was our first day on the Westweg trail from Pforzheim to Basel, Germany. We woke to beautiful weather and headed out of the town to the Black Forest. Much of the trail seemed to be logging roads used for tree harvesting and we saw plenty of wood stacks, both for industrial and residential use.

Really beautiful hike. Would recommend eating at Lendi In the city center once you’re done.
