Gorgeous trail through the forest punctuated by beautiful breakaways on the border ridges of the upper Boréon, among them on the spectacular gneiss walls of the Cougourde, characteristic top having the shape of a squash/courgette. By the majesty of the site, the quality of the rock and the respectable height of its faces, the Cougourde attracts many summer and autumn hikers for more than half a century. The route also includes small valleys adjacent to the green of the Boréon, culminating on the quiet Lake Trécolpas, nestled directly below Pas des Ladres (obligatory passage to the sanctuary of the Madonna de Fenestre and very busy in July-August). Before returning, there is the option to stay at the Cougourde Refuge about halfway through the hike. There are several other refuges located near the trailhead.
