Hauteville-la-Guichard is the cradle of the Norman kings of Italy and Sicily. From here, around 1036, the sons of a modest lord, Tancred de Hauteville, set out to conquer southern Italy and Sicily, where they gave birth to a powerful kingdom. This dive in the bocage Coutançais is punctuated by very beautiful typical farms, hotels. Notable points on the circuit: 0 - Departure to the church near the Tancred Museum, in the former presbytery, which presents the history of the conquest of southern Italy by Tancrede de Hauteville, around 1036. A medieval garden you is also proposed. 1 - To the left of the road, vestiges of a castle. To the right of the path, a beautiful hotel which is today a farm with a roof made of sheet metal, the Hotel Batteur. You meet many on your way, Hotel Å-Forges, Hotel Niobey in "the countryside", hotel ès-Vaux etc. 2 - You are on the GR of Pays Hidden Treasures of Coutances. 3 - To the variant on the right towards the Fourchardière to return in less than 3 km. 4 - Nice crossing of Montcuit, old village with its old school, a small town hall, a pretty church and very old trees in the cemetery. Montcuit was in ancient times, a lordship. 5 - Monument to Robert Lee Duffy, further north in Mesnilbus (on the D77). This American fighter pilot whose plane crashed here in July 44 was found in 1992 in Colorado. 6 - Attention: to take on the right of the road, the small path hidden on the left of the panel "kept preserve".
