The Marais makes it easy to imagine what the City of Light was like during medieval and Renaissance times. The neighborhood has been slow to adjust to modernity, parts of it did not have running water until the 1970s. Though entering the Marais now may be less of a time warp than it was 40 years ago, the area has managed to preserve the charm of an older time. This tour wanders the labyrinth of narrow streets, where you can stumble across artisans repairing old instruments, 500-year-old hotel particuliers (private mansions) and tiny antique storefronts. It also goes past many beautiful old buildings, some of which are museums with historical collections that paint a detailed picture of what Paris used to be.
