The entire GR20 takes about 12 days to hike. It begins in Cadenza in the North and ends in Conca in the South. It can be done in either direction. It is well marked with red and white blazes. The best time to do the trek is between late May/early June to late October. July and August tend to be the busiest. There are refuges along the way. You can pay to stay in a refuge, but can also pay a fee to camp on the grounds if you have brought along a tent. Camping along the GR20 route is prohibited except at a refuge site. If you are doing this entire trek, plan to stay at multiple refuges over the course of your journey. They each cook and sell food, as well. The best place to replenish supplies is Vizzanova; however, some supplies can be purchased at Asco Stagnu, Castel di Vergio, Bavella. Be sure to bring a filter or drops since this is a long trek. Many people have reported no issues with water supplies, but speak with locals in the refuges for the best, most up to date information.

most difficult long distance hike I've done, but worth every step! I would do it again in a heartbeat, but with a much lighter pack next time. The way the refugios are set up all you need is a light sleeping bag, change of clothes and water. No need lug a heavy pack over those mountains!! Save your feet and back!

This trial was epic! It was one of the hardest trail runs ive done! Turns out all the information you read on the GR20 is all slightly different in regards to distance & vertical climbing. anything from 169.8 (AllTrails) to hiking books 185Km. I ran the GR20 over 5 days (54 hours total), with 2 good friends and my garmin said 195.6km & 13,800 m climbing. It lived up too and exceeded all our expectations and challenged us! Highly recommend the trail, but be prepared for the extreme!
