Trail begins at the parking lot close to Notre Dame de la Gorge, at the end of the road from Saint Gervais, accessible by public transport in the summer. Trail leads through forest up the gorge alongside the Torrent de Tré-La-Tête, which features a number of waterfalls. After passing through the small hamlet of Nant Borrant the trail joins the Tour du Mont Blanc route and heads through classic Alpine pastures, with excellent views of the mountains ahead. Beyond the refuge de la Balme the trail becomes considerably steeper, passing another waterfall to reach wild alpine meadows. From here turn off the TMB to reach the two lakes, with Mont Tondu towering above them. Follow the shoreline of the first lake to reach the second, upper lake. For those wanting to continue the journey, a trail leads to the Col d'Enclave at 2,672m for a view down to the lakes. In either case, head back to the beginning by the same route, with the option of stopping at the delightful refuge de la Balme for a cold drink with magnificent views or to explore the Baroque chapel at Notre Dame de la Gorge.

A wonderful trail that runs along portions of the TMB. Plenty to see...waterfalls, livestock, and a lake at the summit. beautiful views and places to stop for lunch/beer. The second half of the trek in is above treelike bring sunscreen.

Excellent trail, covers a lot of varied scenery and gives a great sense of the TMB contained within a single day. Beautiful views at the two lakes make the effort to reach there worthwhile but the two refuges the trail passes and the chance to stop for a drink high in the Alps really adds to an already excellent day.
