A circular walk from the village of Alvechurch, near Birmingham in the Bromsgrove district of Worcestershire. The route follows a beautiful stretch of the Worcester and Birmingham Canal and then skirts the two local reservoirs, Lower Bittell and Upper Bittell. After following some beautiful paths through trees and crop fields, the route takes you through the destination village of Barnt Green, before more fields and tree-lined paths lead you back to the start. At the top of the steady climbs, you will be rewarded with fabulous far reaching views. The route has several steady gradients throughout, but there are no steep sections. You will need to negotiate several gates and kissing gates, some flights of steps plus 5 stiles (four of which have generous gaps for dogs, but one of which has only a medium-size gap, so larger dogs will need to climb this stile or get a lift over). The paths are all well-walked but are almost all unmade so can get very muddy in the winter and after periods of rain. You will not be sharing any of the paths with livestock. Allow 2.5 hours.

Very enjoyable, varied walk. We did it in the reverse direction so the ascent was at the start and the easy stretch along the canal at the end. Traffic noise from M42 was intrusive on the first section (as we did it, last of you go the suggested way). Note the car park suggested is marked for pub customers only. You might want a pint at the end, there is some possible roadside parking or you could park in Barnt Green.

Lovely walk with the dogs. Very muddy but everywhere is as the moment. Lovely mix a canal, feilds, bridleways and reservoir walking. Starts and finishes at a pub, what more could you ask for in a walk?

Really enjoyed this circular walk. Very varied terrain including canal paths, fields and woodland paths. There was a very muddy patch so we had to take a bit of a detour!

A lovely trail with great views , rated as moderate which is about right , no steep hills and the footing is fine all the way round , towards the ends there’s a footpath marked up as closed but it’s fine to ignore this and is only a precaution due to path having work done to part of it , this route can also be fun on a push bike too

Lovely walk taking just about two hours. Next time we will park at the Crown Pub and come Back for lunch! The walk along the canal was particularly lovely today. Thanks for a great route.

As the car park at the start next to the canal was owned by the pub and we weren't planning to eat we parked in a little layby just up from the next bridge over the canal. If I was doing this walk again I would park at Barnt Green in the car park by the playing fields (see photo) and use the pub as a half way stop for a drink and the loo. Barnt Green also has loads of free parking on a Sunday. The walk is a nice mix of towpaths, fields, villages and reservoirs. There was one quite muddy bit (see photo) and this was in June. My wife suffers with vertigo and found the foot bridge over the M42 difficult to cross.

Very enjoyable walk, had no issues. Well signposted walk and the directions were spot on. Some great views of Worcestershire. 5 stars from me!

A good and varied walk with, at this time of the year, an acceptable amount of mud! Landlady ok'd our parking as the sign is confusing- we intended to lunch there anyway and I recommend the steak pie!!
