Getting There

A circular walk from the village of Ogbourne St George in Wiltshire. This simple walk gives plenty of opportunity to stride out, taking in the architectural delights of the village then joining a stretch of the Ridgeway and returning along the route of a disused railway line. There are lovely views of rolling fields all around. The walk is relatively flat with only a few gentle inclines. It follows a mixture of village lanes, stone tracks, grass tracks (with some shallow ruts) and the track bed of an old railway. Some of the tracks can become muddy after periods of rain or in winter, but the mud rarely becomes deep. There are no stiles, steps or kissing gates on route. There is one crossing of an A-road that needs care. You will not be sharing any of the paths with livestock. With all this in mind, the route should be suitable for an all-terrain disability buggy when the ground is firm. Allow 2 hours.

Ogbourne St George is located just off the A346, about 3 miles north of Marlborough. The walk starts and finishes on the High Street, close to the junction with the side road called Poole's Meadow and alongside the children's playground. There is roadside parking here and along much of the High Street. Approximate post code SN8 1SJ.

A pleasant walk through the village, along a short stretch of The Ridgeway and back down a disused railway. Not exactly the back of beyond but pleasing views and easy going.
