Fyfield and Devils Den is a 4.9 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Marlborough, Wiltshire, England that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, nature trips, and bird watching and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
This burial chamber was reconstructed in 1921. The Devil's Den is what is left of a neolithic passage grave on Fyfield Down. Two standing stones, a capstone and two fallen stones are all that remain of what was the entrance to a long mound, described in the 1920s as being around 230 ft long and 17 tons in weight.
It's a good route with lots of open countryside, lovely cows, not too muddy. However, a section close to the car park (just after the tomb when walking anti clockwise) cuts between two rights of way across a farmer's field without right of way. He was quite irritated and asked that we note this.
The initial path along the race tracks was a bit dull, but once you got up to the woods and then onto the downs it was just beautiful. The rivers of stones were pretty awe inspiring and the devil’s den was the cherry on the top of a beautiful (windy) walk.
Great views and lots of interesting features. Will revisit to explore more of the trails coming off the main trail
