Ilkley Moor Circular Walk is a 2.4 mile loop trail located near Ilkley, West Yorkshire, England that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking.
From Cow and Calf car park to Rocky Valley, White Wells and Ilkley Tarn This is an easy walk, but you can make it much longer. If you have young children with you, they will enjoy scrambling on the rocks at Cow and Calf, playing in the rock-strewn streams, hiding behind the rocks in Rocky Valley, seeing the plunge pool at White Wells and feeding the ducks on Ilkley Tarn.
Unless it has been very dry for some time there will probably be some muddy puddles at least, so bring boots or wellies. The route is all on well-used paths
Really easy walk had four kids all 5 and below that absolutely loved it
This is a good family trail, but is quite steep and makes up for its lack of distance and can take longer than you might imagine. So definitely take it easy and slow if unfit. There are multiple ways to do it and if not careful you can end up scrambling up rocks and on overgrown alternate paths if you take the wrong course from The Wells cafe (the easier walk is to head up the path behind the back of the cafe not to side of the cafe). Kids will really enjoy this walk as there are lots of things they can interact with and it isn’t so long that they may lose interest.
We took our 5 year old on this trail and he coped with it very well, little big tricky in parts but generally a decent enough walk for all abilities. Nice clear day made for some great views across Wharefdale.
Lots of various ways to shorten or lengthen this route. Perfect for novices. I took my 6 year old and he dealt with everything perfect. Nothing too tricky for him and likewise families going for a stroll. Lots of other walkers/runners.
a beautiful and gentle walk up an easy incline to a rewarding view at the top of the Moors. you'll undoubtedly meet a kind person on the way as well. be sure to hit the White Wells waterhouse while you're in the area. Darwin visited the house frequently to clean himself.
