Getting There

A circular walk around the Penistone Hill Country Park, the Bronte Waterfall, Bronte Bridge and the village of Stanbury. The walk is along fairly well defined paths across moorland with carpets of heather covering the hillsides. Whilst most of the route is along good paths there are sections near Bronte Waterfall which are down rocky steps which together with several kissing gates make the walk unsuitable for pushchairs. The moors are used for grazing sheep making it important to keep dogs under control.

The walk starts and finishes at the car park located in Penistone Hill Country Park which is just west of Haworth in West Yorkshire. Postcode BD22 8DA will get you to Haworth and from there take the B6142 towards Stanbury. Just before entering Stanbury take the road on the left signed Oxenhope. Go across the reservoir and climb the hill ahead. Just before the brow of the hill watch out for the large stone boulder inscribed Penistone Hill Country Park. The car park is at the top of the gravel track on your left. The car park is free and also ideal for a picnic. If you so wish you could change the start point of the walk to one of the Public Houses in Stanbury if you would prefer to end the walk with a pub meal.

WalkingGreat!

Pretty easy, boggy in places. Probably not suitable for pushchairs but small children would enjoy the walk to the water which is at the moment, nice and shallow for paddling. Glorious views. Ground nesting birds to watch out for!

Nice afternoon walk for the family, boggy in places but mostly what you would expect from a walk on the moors

One way was a pleasant trail, though very busy with people. The other way (about 1.5 miles) was vía a road and just wasn’t very pleasant with two small children.

Really nice walk. A bit of the walk can be quite muddy especially after wet weather. I would recommend waterproof shoes. Stunning views and free parking.

Absolutely breathtaking. This is definitely a must see for all. The hike is quite easy if you’re fit and well and it’s short trail which allows time to take in the beautiful views. There are some small benches to have picnics. It’s a lovely peaceful walk with the company of lots of sheep roaming freely. Baa!

It’s a great trail. The waterfalls are lovely make sure you explore them all! The circular through the village and by the reservoir is also great. We went on a sunny and calm day it is a very open place so I would expect it could be windy at times.

Walked it on a grey, windy, drizzly winter day. Easy to follow and nice views. Some sections near the start are boggy then the last third or so is all road, lots of signs for keeping dogs on leads at all times so not the best for dogs.

Lovely walk, although breezy it was warm and the sun was shining. Saw a kestrel and some oyster catchers. Stopped and had a picnic by the "waterfall". Curlews calling along the way. Walking was relatively easy although walk up from waterfall was a bit strenuous for us oaps!! On the walk down to stanbury, climbed over the wall marked public footpath and sat in the sun for a coffee and a break from the wind which was thankfully behind us.
