Getting There

A round walk in West Sussex, with stunning views over South and East Harting and expansive views over a good part of the walk. The walk starts in a National Trust car park and commences on the South Downs Way. Whilst it is up and down, there is nothing too extreme by way of gradients. You may come across sheep or cattle on the route (so keep dogs under close control) but there are no stiles (only gates). Be aware that the last section runs fairly close to a fast road which is not always visible from the path, so a lead for your dog also through this section would be advisable.

The start of the walk is in a National Trust car park just off the B2141 which runs from Lavant to Petersfield. From Lavant start out on the A286 towards Midhurst and then, shortly after leaving Lavant, turn left onto the B2141. The car park is on the right after 7 miles on the B2141. It is at the top of the steep hill which runs down to South Harting. The lat/lng of the parking is 50.956034/-0.875258. The nearest postcode is GU31 5PN. The National Trust car park uses RingGo parking which is accessed by mobile phone. The cost is currently £2 a day (correct Mar 2017) and can be paid any time up to 11pm on the day of parking. The access number is 01372885500 and the location number is 8508. You may also pay on their web site which is https://www.myringgo.co.uk. There is alternative free parking for one or possibly two cars only, just off the road on the right-hand side (travelling from Lavant) some 500 metres before the car park (50.949875/-0.867555). If you take this option, walk a short distance into the wood and through a five bar gate where you will pick up the walk at the beginning of the last section. Turn left to join the walk. Also, a short distance before this parking area on the left-hand side (down a track) there is a small area suitable for parking.

we did a longer walk and continued South. the last stretch of the walk is nice through a winding wooded path but there is a busy road a few 100m away

Lovely walk with fantastic views across the downs. The map was very accurate and easy to follow. The dogs loved it too :-)

First to Review

lovely Autumnal walk, v pretty woods, sweeping heathland and great views. Excellent directions. Only downside was being in earshot of a busy road for the last stretch. Might reverse the walk next time. Really enjoyed it thank you!
