Getting There

A circular pub walk from The Bulls Head in Earlswood, near Solihull and on the border between the West Midlands and Warwickshire. The Bulls Head is a historic country pub offering locally sourced food and award-winning cask ales from Daniel Thwaites. The walking route explores the fascinating local waterways, including a stretch of the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and a circuit of Earlswood Lakes, with lots of history and wildlife to discover. The walk is relatively flat with only a couple of gentle slopes. It follows a mixture of canal towpaths, lakeside paths and country lanes. Whilst most of the paths are normally firm, some stretches can have some mud and puddles after periods of rain and the path around Windmill Pool is prone to becoming very muddy in winter and after rain (so you will need good boots at these times). About half of the road stretches have pedestrian pavements but do take care of traffic on those stretches without. There are no stiles on route, but you will need to negotiate several kissing gates and a staggered barrier. You will not be sharing the paths with any livestock, but there are lots of birds and wildfowl on the lakes, so take care with dogs. Allow 2 hours.

The Bulls Head is located on Limekiln Lane, in the northern half of Earlswood village (which is within the West Midlands and about 4 miles south-west of Solihull). The pub has its own large car park. Approximate post code B94 6BU. If you are coming by public transport, you can adjust the walk to start on Malt House Lane (Waypoint 4), which is just a half-mile walk from The Lakes rail station.

Walking

Nice walk. Too much on the road which with a dog is a pain but is a pleasant walk. Walking from the Red Lion around the lakes would miss out the roads.

HikingGreat!

Nice walk, if you’re going in wet weather or in autumn/winter then recommend decent footwear as was quite muddy around the ford even in mid august with little rain! Pub is open but if you’re parking there you must be a patron so make sure you have a pint!

Great walk for seeing some wildlife on the lake, not too muddy despite the rain. Excellent for dog walking or just a nice walk without too much road walking.

Great trail that is easy to follow from any of the waypoints. Beautiful views all round, would definitely recommend for any dog walkers and anyone who likes flat routes! Due to covid-19 restrictions parking is massively limited we choose to park outside the Red Lion Pub, which begins at waypoint 3, however I would not recommend going during midday as parking becomes limited and the lakes overcrowded. However beautiful walk with easy directions definitely worth a shot!

Great trail for a leisurely Sunday walk. But if it’s rained be prepared for mud and lots of it!

Great first walk using AllTrails! Some of the walk is on country lanes without pavements so be careful, plenty of photo opportunities along the way! We now have one very tired cocker spaniel!

some of it is on main roads without pavements, suggest leaving the trail and stepping into the nature reserve at the top of the first lake
