Getting There

A circular walk from the village of Hunningham, close to Royal Leamington Spa in Warwickshire. This is a pretty walk through open countryside taking in arable fields, pastures and a beautiful stretch of the River Leam and visiting two lovely villages. The first half of the walk follows a section of the Millennium Way, clearly waymarked with the distinctive circular waymarkers. The walk is relatively flat with just some gentle slopes. You will need to negotiate several kissing gates and footbridges plus two stiles (which should be suitable for most dogs). You may come across cattle or other livestock in some of the fields. Allow 2.5 hours. The Millennium Way is a beautiful 100 mile walk in the heart of England, from Pershore in Worcestershire to Middleton Cheney in Northamptonshire. The route was created by the 41 Club as a community project, with something to offer every walker or rambler across Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. This is one of 44 circular walks, each of which incorporates a section of the Millennium Way and is published in partnership with 41 Club.

Hunningham is located about 3 miles north east of Royal Leamington Spa in Warwickshire. The walk starts and finishes outside The Red Lion pub in Hunningham and nearby roadside parking is available in the village. Approximate post code CV33 9DY.

The trail was great, genuinely really enjoyed it. The only disappointment is there are diversions for HS2 so the woodland area the trail takes you through is closed. If you follow the route along the canal (the way we went) then when you get to the diversions - and as long as you're happy to miss seeing the church - take the diversion which is straight infront of you rather than turning left to follow the original route (photo added in the photos section so you can see). This will keep you on the right hand side of the woods and enable you to get back on route. Hope this helps!

We headed out from Cubbington towards the woods, unfortunately the path through the wood is closed at the point is crossed the HS2 works....they have build a fenced in diversion around the wood, which is ok....the other side of the wood, you rejoin the path, however just before Weston under Wetherlee there is a run down farm where you have to cross fields with sheep and then cows....we turned back at this point.

Started from the church in Cubbington and stopped at the Red Lion for lunch as it was almost half way round which made for a really nice walk.

A lovely walk in the Warwickshire countryside, easy to follow with some great views including the river Leam. It was nice and dry when I walked it but by the look of the dried up mud some parts especially through the woods I would think that it can be very muddy in wetter conditions.

Very pleasant walk, well marked and easy to follow. Chocolate box finish to the walk as you return to Hunningham and a very welcome glass of cider at the Red Lion on a warm day at the end.
