Getting There

A circular walk starting and ending at the canal side car park at Cathiron Lane near Brinklow. The walk takes you through Little Lawford and Newbold on Avon, along quiet roads, undulating fields; with lovely views of North Warwickshire's countryside, farm tracks and bridleways, across the River Avon twice and along part of the Oxford Canal including the 200 yard long Newbold Tunnel. The walk has a few gentle slopes, the paths across fields were well defined and generally mud free even after a good rainfall over night, the canal path however can get very muddy, especially the part from Newbold to the entrance to Brinklow Marina. There are quite a few gates, several stiles (some of which are enclosed so dogs will need a lift over), two fenced bridges, and a couple of small sets of steps along the way. Several of the fields have sheep and horses, and there are geese near the lakes so take care with dogs.

The walk starts and finishes at the free car park beside the Oxford Canal on Cathiron Lane near Brinklow. From the M6 J2/M69 take the A46 south for 3 miles. Turn left onto the A428 for another 3 miles to Bretford. Turn left onto the B4455 towards Brinklow for a further 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Rugby Road (signposted Easenhall) then first right into Cathiron Lane, the car park is on the left after about 0.5 miles. Nearest post code CV23 0NA.

Enjoyed this trail, was easy to follow, some nice views with the exception of the cement works. One part just past the courtyard where the lane was flooded almost impassable without full foot submersion and shuffling on the edge of fencing, but all part of the fun. Very muddy for 90% and although both my friend and I wearing walking shoes we both fell over in the mud on the tow path

Really enjoyed this trail. Very pretty starting point. It was very wet and as other reviewers have said very muddy in points. Our boots held up though and we didn’t let it slow us down too much. Shame the pub was shut due to lockdown and the trail was slightly longer than the description says but very enjoyable circular route.

Very good trail, lots to look at. If you’re planning to go anytime soon definitely take suitable footwear as it’s very muddy. Apart from that it’s a lovely walk :)

Really pleasant wander. Doesn’t feel like you’re right next to Rugby. Well worth the 7.5 Miles

Nice easy trail across pleasant countryside and a long stretch along the Oxford canal. We started at the Newbold end of the loop with easy parking in front of the church.

WalkingGreat!

Well marked paths with clear directions. Really helpful to have the description as well as the map and also advise on where to park as none of us were local. Definitely recommend stopping at the pub (Barley Mow); was open with measures in place and we were lucky enough with the weather that it was lovely to eat outside. Glorious scenery and good route

Really enjoyed this route. Some farmland, some canal, climbed around the broken bridge (it's very easy, don't worry!), stroked a horse, pet a dog, ran from a cow... Was an easy route, just marked as moderate as it's 7.5 miles in total. Newbold Tunnel was the highlight of the walk, it was very cool indeed.

WalkingBridge out

lovely trail following footpaths across fields, some with sheep and horses on. bridge at start of walk closed, carry on down road to next right footpath by a parking/canal site and joins back on the trail. Personally having the second half all down the same canal was a little tedious, saying that was beautiful and shaded on a hot day

Very good walk , very muddy . The first wooden bridge was actually closed in need of repair, so we had to climb across the edge to get over the other side .

First to Review

The first half of this walk is beautiful through the countryside. The second half even during this current heatwave was muddy and got a bit boring as 3 miles of canal can drag on. Top app though, easily followed and the map helps to back up the text. Thanks
