pub walk

A circular pub walk from The Richard Onslow in Cranleigh, Surrey. The Richard Onslow is a historic pub packed with period features, with a modern and unfussy approach to service and food. The walking route explores the surrounding stunning Surrey countryside, heading north along a stretch of the Downs Link former rail path before returning along the Wey South Path, through woodlands and meadows. There are stunning views of the North Downs and chance to see skylarks in the meadows, before heading back through Cranleigh School and Cranleigh Church, both with famous connections. The walk includes only gentle gradients. It follows the surfaced Downs Link on the outward leg, then unsurfaced paths through woodlands and meadows, with some stretches that can become very muddy after periods of rain and in winter. You will need to negotiate several gates, bridges and two stiles (both of which have adjacent dog gaps). There is no livestock on route, but there is a chance you may come across horses in one of the fields. There are a couple of road crossings that need care. Allow 3 hours.

Decent walk, level and therefore not too strenuous. In July 2019 the section alongside the school playing field was extremely overgrown with brambles so go through a gap on the left and skirt a field.l: you will save yourself a lot of scratches!

Really wonderful walk. We loved the variety of woodland, canal, disused railway line , town and fields ended up at a lovely cafe in Cranleigh . Dogs loved it too.

We live in Cranleigh but really enjoyed this walk. Flat and a variety of woodland and open countryside and then the playing fields of Cranleigh school. Cemetery worth lingering to piece together village history. Before heading up to Cranleigh school we took a 10 yard detour for coffee at Notcutts Garden Centre. Timings for the walk were accurate. Took us about 3 hours. Sun shone and autumnal trees looking gorgeous.
