Getting There

A circular pub walk from The Inn at West End near Chobham in Surrey. The Inn at West End is a lovely village pub which welcomes walkers (dogs are welcome in the courtyard garden only), ideal for post-walk refreshments. The walking route explores Brentmoor Heath, a beautiful patchwork of woodland and heather-rich acid heathland, before heading south to loop though woodland, meadows and quiet residential lanes on the way back to the inn. The walk is relatively flat, with just a few steady gradients. The paths through the heath and meadows can get very muddy after periods of rain, so good boots are recommended (or wellies in the winter months). There are lots of intersecting paths on the heath, so the Alltrails map will be helpful for navigation. The first stretch includes a staggered barrier, sleeper bridge and a gate-side gap. The final mile stretch (which can be excluded if you wish) also includes a short stretch of road walking (within a 30mph zone) plus two stiles (which have fence gaps suitable for most dogs to pass through). Allow 1.5 hours.

There are two villages called West End in Surrey, so make sure you are heading to the correct one. This West End is located on the main A322, about 4 miles west of Woking and 2 miles west of Chobham. The Inn at West End is located on the main A322 road, at the northern end of the village. If you are coming by public transport, there are bus stops directly outside the pub. If you are coming by car, the pub has its own car park. If this is full, there is also roadside parking available along the length of the adjacent Brentmoor Road. Approximate post code GU24 9PW.

We hadn’t taken note of the advice re wellies so had to find an alternative route where it was flooded. Looking forward to repeating it in drier conditions and hoping that hospitality might once again be available

This is an absolute favorite walk of mine, and I have completed it many times while staying as a guest at The Inn, West End. The walk passes through some areas with deep history and one can see the remains of days gone by. I do advise wearing wellington boots as in one part the path is flooded by a stream and you must wade through it. It is a perfect walk before or after dinner or a drink at The Inn, West End. Please see our review on TripAdviser under the name “USAVisitors”. West End is a delightful village - highly convenient for major roads and just 30 minutes or a taxi ride from the Heathrow airport. It is just next door to Camberley where I grew up and my wonderful sister in law Linda Barrow and step niece Cheraine are living so a stop over to look forward to when I visit. One day, I hope I may live / work in West End.

Just done the walk. It was dry with only a few muddy aces. Took just over an hour. Walked back up fenns Lane onto Brent Moor Road to avoid houses.

A nice walk which the kids accompanied us on. Some really beautiful spots especially with the spring flowers in bloom.

The walk was a nice and gentle walk but a number of the paths were completely flooded due to the recent storms, I’d leave it until the summer before trying it.

Nice walk mainly through woodlands. The first part through very nice woodland but noisy from busy road nearby then steadily gets quieter. A bit overgrown and muddy in places. The last bit through residential roads a bit disappointing but very short and then a lovely bite to eat at The Inn to finish

Really enjoyed the first part of this walk through the heathland. Very pretty and off lead dog friendly. The second half was not as enjoyable, some quite tight paths and a bit of a main road section. Would definitely do the first half heathland walk again and The Inn at West End is a fantastic pub with great service and lovely food

Lovely walk, took just over an hour. Varied countryside with lovely views. Dog friendly. Drinks at the Inn at West End after. Sat in their beautiful courtyard which welcomed dogs with water bowls.

Lovely walk with very accurate instructions. A few slightly muddy spots (in April) but just need decent footwear. The Inn at West End pub is also very nice.
