Horsell Common, Planes, Racing Cars and Spaceships is a 4.1 mile loop trail located near Woking, Surrey, England that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking.
A circular walk from Horsell Common near Woking in Surrey. The walk takes in a large section of the common (including the sandpits made famous in H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds) before heading out through the recently formed McLaren Park (alongside McLaren's Formula One technology centre) and on to reach Fairoaks airport. The walk then returns on the bridleway which runs alongside the many streams which feed the River Bourne. The route follows a mixture of heath/woodland paths, bridleways and one section along a wide grass verge alongside Chertsey Road, all of which can get fairly muddy after wet weather. The walk is almost entirely flat and there are no stiles, just a couple of gates. There is a cafe (Hanger Cafe) open to the public within Fairoaks Airport complex should you want refreshments. Approximate time 1.5 to 2 hours.
The walk starts from the free Horsell Common car park (with height restriction barrier) on the A245 near the Six Crossroads Roundabout just north of Woking. There are a couple of car parks on this road so make sure you park in the one closest to the Six Crossroads roundabout. Approximate post code GU21 4BY.
Thoroughly enjoyed walking this trail, very muddy in parts so you’ll need wellies.
A good, quick hike. Muddy in parts between the McLaren building and the airport, so make sure you have sturdy hiking boots or wellies. Loved the last part in the woods- was very serene.
Really easy walk however due to flooding be prepared to get shoes wet if in trainers. Nice variety of places to see on this route.
Every walk needs to cross an airport runway, right? A delightful trail through woods, common land, heathland, fields and an airport. Stop for a coffee in the Hangar Cafe!
Great walk, lovely variety of terrain and scenery. Interesting to see the helicopters and planes taking off and landing at Fairoaks. The common is wonderful, really enjoyed being in the woods and it was surprisingly quiet considering it's the school summer holidays. Not very challenging but that's cool too, took us about 2 hours, we were taking things nice and easy
