Getting There

A circular woodland walk from Hascombe in Surrey. The walk encircles Hascombe Hill which is the site of an Iron Age hill fort and comprises 6 acres of dense mixed woodland. The naturally steep sides of the hill provided natural defences for the hill fort and now these steep slopes afford excellent views across the Surrey Hills. The entire walk is through woodland making it ideal for dog walking. There are several steep ascents and descents and the paths are likely to be muddy after wet weather. There are no stiles or gates, just a couple of staggered fences. Approximate time 90 minutes.

Parking is available in the sandy car park which is opposite the White Horse pub on The Street (B2130) in Hascombe. Approximate post code GU8 4JA.

Easy trail to follow through woods but sadly no views to speak of. No doubt would be better in winter. Do walk in direction suggested as last 1/3 of walk on gentle gradient down all the way.

Walking

A lot of ups and downs but only 1 steep bit, more of an easy than a moderate a felt. Great views, very dog friendly

A relatively gentle walk with some great views. Parked opposite the pub and finished with a stroll through the village. Pity the pub is closed due to coronavirus- that would be the perfect Sunday walk/pub lunch!

Really enjoyed this walk. Initially a pretty steep incline but fairly level after that and worth it for the fantastics views. Pub at the start/end also looks like a lovely spot for a drink and a bite to eat (although currently closed). Trail was fine in trainers even though it has rained the day before, we encountered no mud.

Good walk with nice views. Very muddy in places after recent rain, and a couple of trees are down blocking the path. We did the diversion to see the sculpture and, although it isn’t far, our total walk was 6km.

A great short walk. Fabulous views, we went in November and the Beech trees were spectacular and lit up a dull day. Pub at the end was snug and warm. Highly recommend if you don’t want a long hike.

Great walk, great views and clear paths. A tiny bit overgrown in maybe two places - but really nothing that a step to the right or left doesn’t deal with. A couple of uphills which get your heart going - but again - nothing too arduous. I highly recommend it.

Tough climb to start but very enjoyable and rewarded with great views. Didn’t see any other people on a Friday around 6 which was great, and very little road noise. Saw pheasant, deer and even a few ducks all up the hill. Nice little pub at the end too.

You are rewarded with beautiful views all the way around! Really excellent easy going walk if you have a spare 1 1/2 hours and fancy a nice drink at the end (or start!) Waymarker out the ground and GPS doesnt work right at the start, first fork. We went left up steep hill and completely bypassed first horseshoe so I'm assuming you want to go right :)

We loved this walk. Perfectly safe for a dog who likes to go ahead exploring! One section has loads of trees being cut down unfortunately because of a disease. Definitely will do it again.
