Getting There

A circular walk from Godalming Station in Surrey, exploring the valley of the River Wey, west of the town including the medieval stone bridge in Eashing. This walk is published through a collaboration with Surrey County Council. The walk has a few gentle climbs and descents throughout. It follows unmade bridleways and paths for the most part, which can be very uneven underfoot and can also get very muddy at times so good boots are a must (or wellingtons with grips in the wet winter months). There are several boardwalks, some steps, a gate, some staggered barriers and one stile (which has access alongside for dogs). There is a section of about 500 metres along the edge of a fairly busy road, so the walk is not recommended for young children. One of the fields may have livestock. Godalming itself has many options for refreshments at the start or end of the walk. Ordinance Survey Map: Explorer 145 Guildford & Farnham. This walk follows public footpaths and bridleways which cross private and public land. Please respect people's privacy, keep dogs under control and remember the Countryside Code.

The walk starts and finishes from Godalming rail station. For help with planning your journey by public transport please visit http://journeys.travelsmartsurrey.info. If you are coming by car, the station does have a pay and display car park which costs £7.50 per day Mon-Fri and £2 Sat (correct January 2016). There are alternative car parks within Godalming if you prefer. Approximate post code GU7 1EU.

HikingGreat!

We really enjoyed this walk, although we got confused and ended up doing it in reverse! It is a mix of road walking, open fields, and then some lovely solitary paths through very wooded areas. It didn't take long to complete, and was pretty flat all round, some slightly overgrown bits but nothing too awful.

Was a really lovely walk and instructions were clear. We stopped on a bench for a little break along the second river which was lovely. Godalming is a lovely town and there was an amazing ice cream parlour that we stopped in on the way back - I think it was called Godalming Delights.

Walking

This was a lovely walk this morning. There are quite a few areas where the trail is very narrow, but that's too be expected with so much growth. The sections of waking on the roads was a bit tenuous as there is no sidewalk, but I understand that it's difficult to create a circuit that's completely on public paths. All in all, I would highly recommend this path. The nature is quite stunning.

Nice walk, shame about all the construction going on by Fitzpatrick, people need to stop protesting about race and concentrate what’s being destroyed around them

Walking

A great trail along the riverside which was overgrown with cow parsley and other beautiful plants, making parts of the river feel super enchanting. Towards the end of the walk you stick to a long stretch of road which is a little samey but finishing in the old town of Godalming is charming.

A good walk. Several sections are along the roadside but it’s still walkable with dogs on leads. There are tress down across the paths in several places in the woods following the recent storms but all still passable. This is probably not suitable for buggies, given the narrow walkways and mud, until the summer. The Stag pub is dog friendly in parts of its restaurant area. If parking do use the lower station car park as it’s much easier to park - currently £3.50 all day on a Saturday.

Think this walk would have been beautiful in summer. This weekend, the river banks were being tested with some paths under water so we took some small detours along some roads. Great lunch at the Stag on the River about halfway around.

we did this walk during some high winds and flood alerts which certainly made this more challenging but not impossible. reccommend wellies in those circumstances. be sure to stop at the stag on the river pub for a break halfway!

Some really nice parts along the Wey and around Eashing, but quite a lot of road walking. You get to walk past Fitzpatrick Refererrals (Supervet).

nice walk. I discovered Eashing along the way. The way back from the village along the path by the stables is treacherous in place. Wear suitable shoes and be careful. Aside from this, the walk is very pleasant.

In section 5 the first stile has now been replaced with a kissing gate and the second stile has a dog bypass, making this walk much easier for dog walkers. The walk was really enjoyable and the guidance from the iFootpath app was excellent. We parked at the station (£2 all day on Saturdays) and walked into Godalming town centre after the walk for brunch. If you park at the station, I would recommend the lower car park as the top car park is very tight (especially for large cars). ADMIN RESPONSE: Thank you so much for letting us know about the new gate and easier access for dogs. We have updated the guide for future walkers.
