Getting There

A circular pub walk from The Bluebell in the Surrey village of Dockenfield, exploring the local village paths, woodlands and open fields along the way. This walk is published through a collaboration with the Surrey County Council. The walk has several steady climbs and descents throughout. The paths through the woodlands can get very muddy, slippery or waterlogged after wet weather, so good boots are required (or wellies with grips in the winter). Some of the village paths are fairly narrow and so can be prone to becoming a little overgrown at times. You will need to negotiate several kissing gates plus 7 stiles (all of which have either built-in dog gates or fence gaps alongside, that should be suitable for most dogs). You will cross several grass pastures along the way where you are likely to come across sheep (or other livestock) so take care with dogs. There are a couple of short sections of road walking that require care. Allow 1.5 hours. The walk is designed to start and finish at The Bluebell pub, where you can get refreshments after your walk. Ordnance Survey Map: Explorer 145 Guildford and Farnham. This walk follows public footpaths and bridleways which cross private and public land. Information is included for your interest, but please respect people's privacy, keep dogs under control and remember the Countryside Code.

Dockenfield lies at the western edge of Surrey, alongside the border with Hampshire and adjacent to Alice Holt Forest. The walk starts and finishes from The Bluebell pub, which has its own car park for those taking refreshments after the walk. Approximate post code GU10 4EX. If you are coming by public transport, the walk can be adjusted to start at the Church of the Good Shepherd (Waypoint 4), which has a bus stop alongside. WalkingMuddy

We had a lovely day to do this walk. The weather was a perfect early spring day, but, as other reviewers have said already, there are parts of this walk that were very muddy. The other thing to note is that quite a bit of this walk seems be down narrowish paths between high hedges or fences which can limit the views. That said, overall, with the right footwear its still a pretty nice way to spend an hour or so.

WalkingMuddy

Clear to follow and not as muddy today as previous walkers have described. Lovely views at the beginning but last bit on quite narrow paths. Very enjoyable and please ask at the pub if you are ok to park.

Very good walk with mix of terrain. some small sections are getting a little overgrown but not too bad. past few days there had been a lot of rain but not boggy at all. The Bluebell is great for lunch.

Walking

Lovely walk some amazing wildlife around the way, I saw a deer, rabbits, horses, dogs and birds. Just really beautiful with very little road walking. Did it a bit slower than usual as I was in my jeans and had just eaten loads of food but it was great to try and burn some calories.

Lovely walk in good weather conditions. Good mix of woods, fields and buildings. Not boggy after recent rain but would be in winter.

It was a lovely walk which we will definitely do again - in the summer! We did this in December and when they said parts of it may be boggy they weren’t joking. We ended up covered in mud and bleeding from bramble scratches. Still, I recommend it. Lovely woodland and beautiful views.

Enjoyed this walk during the summer heatwave! No mud at all obviously, and managed to stay in the shade for the majority of the walk. Lovely. Thank you for posting this walk August 2018
