Getting There

A varied circular walk starting from Seven Springs car park, one of the many parking areas you will find in the area of Cannock Chase, Staffordshire. Cannock Chase was designated as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1958 because of its beautiful landscape, its wildlife and its history, it has an extensive area of forest, woodland and parkland. On the walk the paths are of good quality. You will need to negotiate a couple of busy road crossings, a stretch along a roadside grass verge, some stepping stones, a narrow bridge and several gates. There are no toilet facilities along the walk.

Seven Springs car park is on the A513 between Wolseley Bridge and Milford (directly opposite the side road, Meadow Lane, signed to Little Haywood). From Wolseley Bridge travel 1.1 miles to reach the entrance to Seven Springs car park which is located on the left. From Milford travel along the A513 road for 2.3 miles to reach the car park on the right. The nearest postcode is for Oakedge Shooting Ground, Wolseley Bridge, Staffordshire, ST17 0XS (which is further east along the A513).

Nice walk but the part over the main road is very sketchy. People driving really fast can be quite stressful on such a small verge

The car park which we parked at was free, which is always nice. The walk was fairly flat with very few or no steep climbs and you get to see trains, canals as well as Shugborough. Theres a few nice spots where in the summer you could have a scenic picnic by the water.

Walking

Scenic walk, fairly flat route throughout, not muddy but think that's due to how cold it has been so the ground was harder, on a normal day I can imagine it could be muddy in places, walk throughout Shugborough Estate on the route to, and pass down the canal on the way back.

WalkingGreat!

Lovely new year walk. Great for first time walkers like us. Wouldn’t like to walk at the side of the road with children but fine for adults. Will do again.

HikingGreat!MuddyOff trail

Easy trail with lovely views: canals, forests and fields. Very muddy advise proper walking shoes. We parked at Woseley nature reserve: ST17 0WT. The waking 20 mins to the trail. Although this was along the main dual carriageway way.

a brilliant walk through the forest, Shugborough estate and along the canal. The main road section not really suitable for kids, but there is a narrow verge to walk on. I will definitely be doing this again. very picturesque. Car park got very busy.

Very good walk, loads of bikes but all friendly and courteous. The bit about the road is true, bit sketchy that bit, but we managed fine, possibly not for children unless you send them into the undergrowth a little, otherwise very pleasant. Very busy car parks; all of them but then we’re in lockdown #2 so not surprising. We started at the recommended car park Seven Springs by Little Hayward, but that was very busy, narrow for driving too. Could have parked on the main road by the bridge, then went for our picnic at Milford Common

Good trail, however as previously mentioned, you do have to go on a busy road, but there is a path on the left after about 400 yards.

Really enjoyable trial with beautiful views. The only "but" was a part where we had to walk by the main road without any sidewalk. but it wasn't too bad as we decided to cross the road and walk through the forest instead.

The first part of the walk was down a pretty well used road onto a quite crowded canal section but once I'd passed this the walk along Shugbrough Hall and the forest section where very nice.

It was a great quick trail, went round in 1hr 35mins so was a lot quicker than quoted. Only down side is the main road walk... there is no path and it’s quite exposed and busy!

If you park at Milford then you can go along footpaths and miss out the section on the road and pop out where the pavement is just before you get to Shugborough. It adds a few km but it's not difficult to find the route by following the paths on the map. I really enjoyed my walk.
