Getting There

This lovely circular walk takes you through rolling Oxfordshire and Warwickshire countryside with some beautiful views along the way. The walk starts in Shenington and loops through Tysoe both ironstone villages of dark honey-coloured local stone. Shenington's main claims to fame are an illegal 1810 bare knuckle boxing match for the English title involving a famous American black boxer; and the testing of jet aircraft at Shenington airfield in WW2. There is one steep but short climb, otherwise it is fairly easy going across undulating fields. You will walk through livestock fields, with some short stretches of quiet road walking and private lanes. There are a number of stiles and gates. Allow 3 hours. There are pubs in both Shenington and Tysoe; and also a teashop and village stores in Tysoe.

The walk starts at the village green in Shenington, where there is free roadside parking. Approximate post code OX15 6NQ. The no 6 and 7 bus routes between Stratford-on-Avon and Banbury pass through both Shenington and Tysoe.

HikingMuddy

An excellent varied walk. Shennington is a beautiful little village and a perfect start to the walk. It was a bright winters day when we did our walk. It was very muddy but we were still able to appreciate the lovely views. We had our picnic lunch in the little churchyard at Tysoe (well deserved after a trudging our way through extremely muddy fields). It was the Christmas holidays so the Momkeybean coffee shop was closed but we will enjoy it the next time we do this walk. Based on the other reviews we were expecting to be climbing up sheer cliff faces but the hill through the woodlands was not that bad at all (although it was made a bit harder as the ground was very wet). We loved going across the airfield just before entering back into shennington. Can’t wait to do this in summer. Thanks to the person who wrote the route.

The first 3rd is really lovely and the views are scenic. The hill through the words after Tysoe will be quite challenging all year round for even experienced walkers due to the incline. For those who do make it up there is a coffee shop on the business park that proceeds the woods. Nice walk in general but probably a lot better at a different time of year as there are a lot of empty fields.

Great little walk, late hill section a bit steep and would be very sloppy in the wet but plots of bits to stop at. Directions on this route are fantastic too - well done to whoever wrote them!

This was a lovely hike! The beginning is quite overgrown with stinging nettles around, so you’ll need to watch out! After that the walk is easy to follow. There were some points that we ended up on the dotted path of the map instead of the red line but it was no bother! When you get to the business park there is a nice cafe called the Monkeybean which sells very yummy smoothies! Took us nearly three hours to do, but we did have frequent breaks because it was so hot!

Beautiful walk through farmland - expect sheep, lambs, cows and calves. Route not 100% clear, but relatively easy to stay on track.
