A circular walk from the village of Bampton in Oxfordshire. Fans of the TV drama Downton Abbey will immediately recognise Bampton village as being the real-life setting for the fictional village of Downton. A tour of the village streets will quickly reveal Downton's church, hospital, pubs and home of the Crawley family. Leaving the village streets behind, the walking route heads south to explore the peaceful arable farmland. Managed sensitively to conserve wildlife, this particularly tranquil setting will lead you through an area rich with birds, wildflowers and butterflies. The walk is relatively flat with only very gently gradients. It follows a mixture of village streets, a quiet access lane and wide field-edge paths (which can be muddy at times). There are no stiles or livestock on route, but you will need to negotiate a couple of kissing gates plus one staggered barrier. In terms of facilities, there are public toilets (paid) in the Market Square, plus a range of pubs, cafes and shops. Allow 1.5-2 hours.
