It is recommended that you wear waterproof and high boots for this route. There is a parking lot where you leave the car and then you follow the road walking till it ends right after passing a cottage. Follow the trail that goes all by the side of the Harthope Burn. Right after passing the Harthope Burn spring the hard climb to the top of Cairn Hill starts. Once there everything gets easier and the paths are in better conditions. Do not attempt to complete this route under bad weather conditions, in winter and with short days. The hike takes 6-7 hours to complete.

really enjoyed this walk. you follow a stream all the way up to the Cheviot crisscrossing over it. you get muddy so make sure you have waterproof boots on but that makes the walk soo much more fun

Stunning walk in the Cheviots. As others have said, Walking Boots are a must.

Fantastic hike, very boggy throughout however, with a number of stream crossings. Be prepared and come with high walking boots!

Followed the trial through hart hope burn as soon as the track ends it pretty much is the beginning of the mud and bogginess you can see a path right around this circular but your forced to take your time and watch your footing. I’d suggest a good pair of waterproof boots are essential and poles came in handy too. Coming back down toward langleeford and scald hill was boggy also. I would only recommend this climb and hike if you have a few walks under your belt and confident to challenge yourself.
