A circular walk from the village of Wharram le Street in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire. The route visits the deserted settlement of Wharram Percy, the most famous of Britain's 3,000 deserted medieval villages. People lived in it from prehistoric times and the village flourished between the 12th and 14th centuries before it was abandoned in about 1500. It is now an English Heritage site with interpretation panels which tell its story. This route is for you if you want a gentle walk, in a very pretty, unspoilt area that affords panoramic views of the wonderful Wolds. The walk is in an unusually tranquil setting and allows you and your dog a lot of freedom to romp about. The route has only gentle to moderate gradients, following clear grassy paths and a quiet, single-track tarmac lane. There are two stiles on route (one of which you will need to cross twice). You will also need to negotiate several gates, kissing gates and a flight of stone steps. Some of the fields you will cross are likely to be holding cattle. Allow 2 hours.

I would recommend this walk for anyone with a dog, plenty of off lead walking, lovely scenery, not taxing at all... BUT...seriously be aware that just past the Medieval Church there were a herd of big brown cows that virtually cornered us, they just kept coming towards us and some got a trot on, at one point I was considering vaulting a barbed wire fence, my sister had previously done this walk and mentioned the same thing ! That aside....lovely walk

Lovely walk with lots of off lead time for Stanley the nosey beagle. Please be careful on the small footbridge after the medieval ruins as it is damaged and could be quite dangerous if you're not paying attention.
