Getting There

A circular walk from the beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale in the North York Moors. The walk takes in the village itself along with the nearby hamlet of Ellerburn and the pretty paths alongside the village's beck. (A shorter version of this walk, 2.5 miles, is also available on AllTrails which omits the final loop along Longlands Lane). The paths are a mixture of pavements and woodland/field paths, the latter of which can get muddy. There are a few steady inclines and the route includes several kissing gates but there are no stiles. You will be sharing some of the fields with sheep so take care with dogs. There are public toilets alongside the car park at the start of the walk. Approximate time 1.5 to 2 hours.

Thornton-le Dale can be found on the main A170 Pickering to Scarborough road, just a couple of miles east of Pickering. The walk starts from the main village pay and display car park on Maltongate '€“ follow the blue '€˜P' signs from the A170. Approximate post code YO18 7SA.

Walking

Nice tarmac and mud paths alongside the beck, through fields with sheep. instead of looping back at Ellerburn, option to continue north east past the fish farms into the forest (note, field contains cows)

A comfortable walk, mainly on quiet roads and clear paths. Pleasant views. Route description is very precise.

Great family walk we did it on a nice sunny day so all paths n tracks were dry we had to go through a field with cattle at the bottom end of field which didn’t cause us a problem and if not comfortable doing this there was another track through the woods which we realised afterwards lovely ice cream afterwards too

We only did half of this walk. It was lovely, fields with cattle in so dogs need to be on leads. A bit muddy in places and a steep hill up one field, otherwise as very gentle walk. We stopped and had a lovely ice cream and the pup had a paddle in the stream that runs through the village.

Very pleasant walk, especially the first part along the side of the beck.
