Getting There

A circular walk from the beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale in the North York Moors. The walk takes in the village itself along with the nearby hamlet of Ellerburn and the pretty paths alongside the village's beck. (A longer version of this walk, 3.5 miles, is also available on AllTrails which includes an extra loop along Longlands Lane). The paths are a mixture of pavements and woodland/field paths, the latter of which can get muddy. There are a few steady inclines and the route includes several kissing gates but there are no stiles. You will be sharing some of the fields with sheep so take care with dogs. There are public toilets alongside the car park at the start of the walk. Approximate time 1 to 1.5 hours.

Thornton-le Dale can be found on the main A170 Pickering to Scarborough road, just a couple of miles east of Pickering. The walk starts from the main village pay and display car park on Maltongate, follow the blue 'P' signs from the A170. Approximate post code YO18 7SA.

5 stars for this walk because of the ice-cream sold at the farmhouse and a quaint tea room in Ellerburn which was an added, unexpected bonus. (Check opening times)
