Getting There

A circular walk from the village of Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales. If you want a fairly short walk in the Dales, with just a few climbs and you (and your dog) don't mind hopping over dry stone walls, then this one is for you. On this walk you will be rewarded with fantastic views of the Dales - Reeth is situated at the junction of Arkengarthdale and Swaledale. The beautiful village has a nice buzz, with plenty to see and do after your walk. If you have forgotten how beautiful the Dales can be, this walk will remind you. The walk has several steady climbs and descents throughout. You will need to negotiate several stone stiles (gaps in the dry stone walls) along the way - some of these are quite narrow and could be a challenge for wider people and dogs. There may well be sheep in some of the fields, especially early on, and also some cattle in one of the fields towards the end so take particular care with dogs. The multiple grass pastures and stone walls can be disorientating so the live GPS map on the app will be your best navigation aid! Allow 2 hours.

The walk starts and finishes at the war memorial on the green in centre of Reeth. There is limited street parking in Reeth, and also parking available on the village green for a payment in the honesty box. From Richmond, take the A6108 towards Leyburn and follow signs to Reeth turning on to the B6270. From the south on the A1, take the A684 to Leyburn then right towards Bellerby and immediate left along Whippendale Bank to Reeth. There is also a limited bus service from Richmond, No. 30 operated by Dales and District. Approximate post code DL11 6SE.

Lovely walk - particularly liked the fact the terrain varied from grassy fields to riverside to woodland - made it interesting. Very well marked paths. Will definitely do it again !

Great walk. Easy route till we got lost at the end and ended up walking alongside the river, which I didn't mind, but a steep hill back to track. definatley go again.

Lovely walk clear instructions throughout with the GPS. Varied landscape and good for the Spaniel that needs to slim to get through all the gates.

A pleasant walk on a lovely September day in 2017. The instructions are very clear and the route is easy to follow. The app on a phone with GPS shows you where you are on the route. You may have to lift your dog over some of the stiles in the drystone walls.
