A long and sometimes muddy walk from the canal head at Pocklington. Following the route along the canal, past the turn off to Melbourne the path would normally continue before turning right across fields to Allerthorpe Common. On this occasion though, following heavy rain, the route was flooded so continued along the canal path until it became impassable. Returning along the path I finally decided to join the road to Allerthorpe. A pint at the Ploughman's Inn I continued back along footpaths to Pocklington. The path past the Melbourne turn off was extremely water logged so gaiters are recommended although this is uncommon.
