2.5 stars. Wasn't worth it - 90% of it was just unforgivingly muddy and boggy. Make sure you are equipped for very muddy paths. There are a few stunning views along the path. For me, they were spoilt by frustration with some of the stretches towards the latter part of the journey. With good equipment, on a dry day, maybe in the summer or when the heather is in bloom, it'll be a worthwhile day out.
a lovely hike through a varied landscape and terrain. from quaint woods to fast flowing rivers and a waterfall to wild moorland. didn't really know what to expect but was very pleased we did this. can be muddy in places along with slippery rocks and some steep inclines but with the right gear it was thoroughly enjoyable. highly recommend.
Great walk and it was truly made worth it with the water falls, simply breath taking. But wear correct footwear, very muddy.
Absolutely loved our day, even if we didn't follow the route intended! lots of climbing & scrambling over rocks, tree roots & LOTS of mud. Don't even attempt this without proper footwear, not go rage faint hearted OR those who don't like to get their boots muddy!
Mallyan Spout was a childhood favourite and I haven’t been there for over 15 years. It was everything I remembered! A stunning walk, make sure to give yourself plenty of time so you can explore around the waterfalls. The first half to Goathland goes through the moors and is probably the more challenging section. The second half is a steady decline back to Grosmont and follows the rail trail so an easier stroll. Would highly recommend.
Lovely views very picturesque .. Pit stop Coffees and ice creams at Goathland waterfalls and streams for kids and dogs to play in .. Well Worth the walk x
This is a beautiful trail. We got here early (ish), took us 3hrs. The scenery is fabulous, lots of points of interest, lots of wildlife and farm animals along the route. Hardly anyone about. Lovely coffee shop in Goathland called the Coach House. The walk down to the falls is steep, Rocky and sloppy in parts. Tip - wear waterproof/good grip footwear
Really easy route to navigate even though there are no waypoint directions on the app. We ended up parking in the train station carpark which was just as easy (also out of order so free which is always a bonus). The route is a perfect mix of ups and downs in woodland with rivers and also on top of the moors. The route to and from the Mallyan Spout is quite rocky & so if you are unsure under foot then do take care. We also stopped for an ice cream in Gothland which was a nice mid way point break.
