Getting There

A circular walk from the village of Levisham, close to Pickering in the North York Moors. This is a great walk for any season as it offers relatively sheltered paths and stopping off points, and encompasses some moor walking together with a couple of climbs and some dramatic views. Your pooch will appreciate being able to be off-lead on some lovely wide green paths and also perhaps have a paddle in Levisham Beck. The route follows a mixture of quiet roads, open moorland and green paths (which can be muddy at times and are narrow in places, meaning they are prone to being overgrown in later summer). There are several climbs and descents throughout. You will need to negotiate several gates, a flight of steps plus one stile (which is enclosed, so dogs will need a lift over). You will probably be sharing the moorland with plenty of sheep, but there are no cattle on route. Some of the ridge paths have quite steep drops to the side so take care with children and dogs. Allow 2 hours.

Levisham village is located about 5 miles north of Pickering in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire. Take the A169 heading north from Pickering and, after 5 miles, turn left to follow the signs passing through Lockton to Levisham. Roadside parking is available in the village centre. Approximate post code YO18 7NL.

This is an excellent walk which covers some lovely parts of Levisham. It was a little overgrown when we recently walked this. Some lovely views and a nice stopping off point near the beck were you can relax and eat your picnic. Nice reward when you finish the walk with a pint and some pork scratchings from the horseshoe pub. Would recommend this walk to all age groups

Lovely weather did this beautiful walk credit. We did a detour to the Station and watched the 12.15 steam train to Whitby. Some long hill climbing in full Sun and 17 degrees made plenty of water a must.
