Getting There

A circular walk from Glasshouses in North Yorkshire. This fairly long walk can be done in two stages with a refreshment stop in Pateley Bridge along the way. Part one from Glasshouses to Pateley Bridge takes you on a riverside journey into the market town, before heading up into the fields and green lanes of Nidderdale. The circular part returns to Pateley Bridge before retracing the outward route back to Glasshouses. This walk is especially for you if your dog likes a little swim along the way. It also offers loads of fresh air, good exercise and great views of this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The route follows medium terrain with some uphill walking on enclosed green lanes, fields, tarmac paths and quiet roads. There are no stiles and just some gates plus one high stonewall gap with stone steps up to negotiate. There is some walking on quiet roads and tracks. As this is the Dales you need to keep an eye out for sheep and cattle, as well as game-birds in season. There are plenty of opportunities for a canine paddle or swim and the enclosed green lanes and quiet fields allow plenty of off lead time for well-behaved dogs. If you prefer, you can shorten the walk by starting and finishing in Pateley Bridge. Allow 3 hours for the full walk, or 2 hours if you are starting in Pateley Bridge.

The walk starts in Glasshouses. Take the B6165, signposted from the A61 Harrogate to Ripon road at Ripley. At the crossroads, follow the signs down the hill through Glasshouses village. There is roadside parking in Glasshouses, by the river. The walk itself starts from the public footpath sign for Pateley Bridge (1.25 miles) in Glasshouses. Approximate post code HG3 5QH.

Good enjoyable walk but missed the turn off the lane which meant we ended up out at the lead mine. Not a bad walk but wasn’t sure where to go and got stuck on the wrong side of a beck. Still enjoyed and would try again to see if we can spot where we went wrong

We did the loop starting from Pateley Bridge. Really enjoyed the bits along the river, and later in the high pastures. It was a long walk for the boys (8 and almost 5), but they still had plenty of energy for the excellent playground at the end.

Absolute babbertash, The only enjoyable element of the walk was getting back to the car and going home. Whoever recorded this walk was obviously on magic mushrooms and kept doing circles in fields.

Walking

Started at Glasshouses, such a beautiful jaunt into Pateley. Waypoint info not very clear for the start of the circular - thankfully worked out by using the map view. Other than that, the hound and I loved it. Will return in the future and now we know where the livestock is, we'll be more confident to do a lot of this off lead.

This was a must do walk which we started at Glasshouses. Plenty to see as you walk along by the river, when you climb up out of town there are some wonderful views. Quite a lot of walking traffic at the weekend but still a great walk
