A circular walk from the village of Acaster Malbis, near York in North Yorkshire. This riverside walk gives your pooch the opportunity to be off lead on grassy paths and have a swim or paddle in the river. Even though you are close to the city of York, this walk takes you on a tranquil journey past picturesque villages on the riverside and through wide open fields. The terrain is fairly easy, mostly on wide, flat paths by the river or on the old railway line. You will need to negotiate a flight of steps and there are a few stiles, but these will present no problems to most dogs due to the large gaps under the gates. There is a little bit of walking on a quiet road near the end of the walk. Most of the walk is livestock free, but you will cross one field that sometimes holds cattle. Approximate time 1.5 hours.

Enjoyed the walk, did it in dry sunny weather accompanied by my girlfriend & her dog. No issues with any of the stiles (medium sized dog managed to get under them no problem) some of them appear to have been replaced with 'kissing gates' There weren't any animals in the small field adjacent Naburn Swing bridge (which is worth a detour of a few hundred yards to have a walk onto to admire the view of the river) also appeared to be a gated lane at the side of the field for anyone of a nervous disposition as an alternative route. Nice end to the walk in the Ship Inn beer garden.
